SPACE SHUTTLE "COLUMBIA"

Space Shuttle Columbia

The world's first reusable manned spacecraft, the United States' space shuttle, Columbia, was launched into space on April 12, 1981.

Dr. Theodore von Karman (the one on the stamp) founded the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory and the Aerojet Corporation.

Columbia's success changed space travel forever.

Space shuttles are designed so that they may be used for multiple launches.
